Bo Bassett makes the Senior World Team
Two straight wins over Real Woods at Final X give the club two athletes on the U.S. Senior World Team, alongside James Green.
Bo Bassett is a Senior World Team member. At the Final X wrestle-off in Hilliard, Ohio on Friday night, Bassett beat 2025 World bronze medalist Real Woods in two straight matches to take the U.S. spot at 65 kg.
He won the opener 8-4. Bassett scored first off a scramble, went ahead 5-2 in the second period on a lift to the mat, and added two more on a go-behind to lead 8-2 before Woods scored late.
Match two was the harder one. Woods led 5-1 midway through the second period after a takedown and a gut wrench. Bassett answered with four unanswered scores to take his first lead of the match, then finished with a takedown for a 9-5 win and the series.
The series was originally on the main Final X card at the Prudential Center in June, and was postponed after Woods requested a medical delay. It was rescheduled for Friday at Hilliard Davidson High School.
Bassett joins James Green on the U.S. Senior World Team. Green swept David Carr at 74 kg at Final X in June. Both wrestle at the Senior World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, October 24 through November 1.
When they wrestle: Bassett goes on Thursday, October 29, with qualification rounds at 1:30 AM ET and semifinals at 7:30 AM ET, and the 65 kg medal matches on Friday, October 30 at 9 AM ET. Green follows on Saturday, October 31, same start times, with the 74 kg medal matches on Sunday, November 1 at 8 AM ET.
For Bassett, a Virginia Tech freshman, it caps a year that already included U20 World gold in Bratislava, a U20 Pan American title in Rio, and a spot on the U23 World Team.
