Bassett and Green draw their Senior Worlds openers
The brackets are out in Astana. Bo Bassett opens at 65 kg against Canada's Peiman Biabani, and James Green opens at 74 kg against Kyrgyzstan's Orozobek Toktomambetov.
The men's freestyle brackets are out at the Senior World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, and both Tech Wrestling Club athletes know their first opponents.
Bo Bassett opens at 65 kg in the round of 32 against Canada's Peiman Biabani, the 3 seed. Biabani is a familiar name: he lost to Real Woods 3-1 at the 2025 World Championships and 3-2 in the Pan American final in May. Bassett beat Woods in two straight at Final X to earn this spot, and this is his Senior World Championships debut.
Bassett's schedule (Eastern time): qualification rounds Thursday, October 29 at 1:30 AM, semifinals Thursday at 7:30 AM, repechage Friday, October 30 at 1:30 AM, and medal matches Friday at 9:00 AM.
James Green opens at 74 kg in the round of 32 against Kyrgyzstan's Orozobek Toktomambetov. It is Green's eighth World Championships, in a 74 kg field that opened up when Olympic champion Razambek Zhamalov withdrew.
Green's schedule (Eastern time): qualification rounds Saturday, October 31 at 1:30 AM, semifinals Saturday at 7:30 AM, repechage Sunday, November 1 at 6:30 AM, and medal matches Sunday at 8:00 AM. Daylight saving time ends early Sunday, which is why those times shift.
