Bo Bassett is a Senior World Champion. The Virginia Tech freshman beat Armenia's Vazgen Tevanyan 9-1 in the 65 kg final at the Senior World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, finishing his Senior Worlds debut a perfect 5-0.
He was never really threatened on the way. Bassett opened by pinning Canada's Peiman Biabani, the 3 seed, in 1:13, then teched France's Quentin Sticker 12-0 in 1:32. The quarterfinal was the one test: Russia's Abasgadzhi Magomedov led 10-3 at the break before Bassett stormed back to win 14-13. He followed that with a 12-2 tech of Tajikistan's Abdulmazhid Kudiev in the semifinals and controlled the final against Tevanyan.
It completes a remarkable 2026. Bassett won U20 World gold in Bratislava in August, a U20 Pan American title in Rio, and earned this spot by beating 2025 World bronze medalist Real Woods in two straight at Final X in September. Now he is a World Champion at the senior level in his first try.
James Green is next. The Tech Wrestling Club's other World Team member opens at 74 kg on Saturday, October 31, at 1:30 AM Eastern against Kyrgyzstan's Orozobek Toktomambetov, the 5 seed. Every match streams live on FloWrestling.
